The 90s saw a change in technology and marketing areas, with the advent of the Internet and the population expanding into the Sunbelt states. Internet advertising began in 1994 with Hotwired charging sponsors around $30,000 to place an ad on its websites for 12 weeks. Total web advertising spending reached $300 million in the mid-90s. It would triple that amount by the end of the decade. Along with the use of the Internet, companies began integrating technology into commercials. Coca-Cola introduced the now famous CGI polar bears in a 1993 commercial. The movement of people to the Sunbelt meant that the demographics advertising companies had to reach also changed. Many companies began hiring specialized consultants that would target these new markets.
